Generous Heart Kids

Welcome to the ‘Generous Heart Kids’ Bible studies for children.

These three sessions will help children explore their time, talents, gifts and treasure. They can be used as a complement to the adult material, The Generous Heart, or as stand-alone sessions.

The sessions are structured around different courses of a meal so that activities can be selected that are appropriate to the group setting.

Who's dining?

Each session includes activities for all-ages and for two main age groups:

  • Younger children: approximately primary school age (6-10 years old)
  • Older children: approximately older primary school / secondary school (8-16 years old)

These age groups are not meant to be exclusive; use the activities in the session that most fit with the age, ability and maturity of your group. You can also take different activities from either age group if you find these more appropriate.

Setting the table

Preparation is vital, and before the session takes place take time to read through the notes. Try to do this at least a couple of times before the day, as it will help with either starting or prompting discussion on certain points that may be raised in the Bible study session. The Shopping List sheets will help you gather the resources you will need for your group in advance.

On the menu

As with The Generous Heart material, these sessions are ordered into five sections.

  • Starter – select an activity to start the session
  • Mains – Scripture focus with discussion questions and games
  • Sides – additional sections especially for older children (aged 8+) and teens with the capacity for a deeper study of Scripture
  • Dessert - a reflective activity to conclude the session
  • Takeaway – a reminder to take home

Each section also includes text in italics which is material that can be read out loud to your group.

All Bible references are from the International Children's Bible.

Timings

There are no recommended times for activities, as each children/youth group is different, and this material can be used in multiple settings. Instead, be encouraged to spend more time on activities/discussion that are especially relevant to the group you lead.

We pray that these sessions brings glory to God and teaches the next generation more of what it means to worship our generous God.
