This in-person and online course is designed to equip volunteers who support and work with young people in The Salvation Army.
Working alongside young people is central to the mission of The Salvation Army. We know young people face unique challenges, but we also believe that God is doing a new thing through this generation. Our desire is for young people to have life in all its fullness by living out the five mission priorities.
The Children & Youth Department has partnered with Youthscape to incorporate Youthscape Essentials into RAISE Youth Leader Training.
Foundation level (sessions 1–3)
The foundation course is led in person by divisional youth teams.
The first session is our Session for All. It is aimed at anyone connected to a corps to help us understand who young people are and how we can help them to participate in the life or our church. We believe young people are not solely the responsibility of the youth team leader but the whole corps.
Participants who complete the Session for All will receive a handbook and may decide to attend further sessions.
Participants who attend all three foundation sessions can be considered for the commissioned role of youth team member at their corps.
Continuation level (sessions 4–10)
The continuation course is for participants who want to continue their learning after completing the foundation course.
Sessions 4–10 can be completed:
- In an in-person group led by a divisional youth team
- In an online group led by a divisional youth team
- In your own time via iLearn, The Salvation Army's online learning platform
- Using a multi-access approach, depending on the needs of the group
Participants who attend all seven continuation sessions can be considered for the commissioned role of youth team leader at their corps.
