In Isaiah 9:6, Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. This Christmas, we invite our readers to welcome God’s peace into their hearts.
To help us think about what this means, we're going to read and reflect on Psalm 46:1–10 and Luke 2:1–5.
When Jesus was born, the world around him was far from peaceful. It was ruled by the Roman Empire. In Luke 2:1–5, the Bible says that Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken. This was to make sure everyone was registered to pay taxes. The taxes were very expensive making it hard for people to provide for themselves and their families.
Today, many people are finding life to be more challenging due to increased living costs, effects of climate change, the war in Ukraine and other worrying issues. Psalm 46 reminds us that no matter what’s going on in the world, God is still in control.
Each challenge is an opportunity for him to show us just how amazing he is. So, if we take a moment to ‘be still’ and remember that God is with us, our hearts will be filled with the peace of Jesus.
Let's pray
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for the peace you give to me.
Whatever happens around me, help me to find time to be still and focus on you.
Amen.
