At the inaugural Mission in the Margins conference, we will explore some of the distinctive contributions The Salvation Army can make to Christian mission through seeking justice and reconciliation in deprived or forgotten places. The conference will provide a space for critical theological reflection on issues such as poverty, justice and community.
The event will be hosted at Blackpool Citadel Salvation Army, coinciding with the 140th anniversary of The Salvation Army's work beginning in the town.
As Blackpool is one of the UK's most deprived areas, we’re inviting participants to make a pilgrimage to a forgotten place as a live context for theological reflection and discussion. The goal is to foster meaningful dialogue and develop strategies that can drive faithful action in local communities.
Keynote speakers
- Colonel (Dr) Wendy Swan, the chair of The Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission in New York.
- Jenny Sinclair, founder and director of Together for the Common Good, a national Christian charity dedicated to the renewal of the civic ecology by bringing covenantal thinking into church and civic life.
- Captain (Dr) John Clifton, corps officer at Blackpool Citadel and South, and Territorial Justice and Reconciliation Officer.
There will also be opportunities to hear additional papers from active researchers and thinkers, and to engage in discussion and networking.
