Join with Salvationists of the Wales Division for Day 8 of 150 days of prayer.

  • 'You have taught children and babies to praise you. You do that to show your enemies how strong you are’ (Psalm 8:2 EasyEnglish Bible).

1881

The first meeting in Wrexham took place on 23 October 1881. A group of Wrexham soldiers became known as The Praying Boys because of their enthusiastic prayers.

Two young women officers started Wrexham Corps. However, Treforest Corps was started, not by officers, but by local people who had seen The Salvation Army at work and decided to commence their own corps.

Treforest Corps played a small but not insignificant part in the famous 1904–1905 Welsh revival. It was here that Seth Joshua was converted. He was the minister who preached a sermon at Blaenannerch that challenged a young man, Evan Roberts, to be open to the leadings of the Holy Spirit. Evan Roberts went on to play a central role in the Welsh revival in 1904.

Prayer

  • Pray that the enthusiasm of The Praying Boys may still mark the prayers of Wrexham Corps in these days.
  • Pray that the corps will move from strength to strength.
