Join with Salvationists of the Wales Division for day 77 of 150 days of prayer.

  • ‘You are the God who does miracles. You show the nations that you are very powerful’ (Psalm 77:14, EasyEnglish Bible).

1950

A tribute in the 10 June War Cry titled, ‘Served the Very Poor in Christ’s Name’, recorded a Welsh officer’s life of sacrificial service:

‘Commandant Mary Gurmin spent all of her years of service – she became an officer from Treharris – among the very poor. The greater period of her career was spent in hostel work in Whitechapel. Blindness overtook the commandant while still on active service; during the years of retirement, she uncomplainingly “carried on” seeking constantly to do all she could for those around her. When the Home Call came the commandant was ready.’

Prayer

  • What is happening where you are to help people in poverty? Is there a food bank operating that requires volunteers? Is this something that you could offer to do? If not, how can you support those who are engaged in this work? Ask God to show you what he requires of you.
  • Pray for the people you know who are helping those experiencing poverty.
