Join with Salvationists of the Wales Division for day 21 of 150 days of prayer.

  • ‘Get up, Lord, and show your strength! We will sing to praise you because you have great power’ (Psalm 21:13, EasyEnglish Bible).

1894

‘In 1886, two captains and a lieutenant, assisted by soldiers from Oswestry and Newtown, bombarded Welshpool with mighty effect. The corps at Welshpool laboured under great difficulties, mainly with regards to a suitable building for worship, but by the year 1894 the question of a barracks had been resolved. After the opening of the new barracks the corps progressed. A band was formed and a number of fighting soldiers travelled to outlying villages in order to evangelise.’

(The History of The Salvation Army in Wales up to the year 1900)

The story of the early Army was one of constant outreach. The soldiers of the one-year-old corps at Oswestry and the two-year-old corps at Newtown reached out to help start the work in Welshpool. The soldiers in Welshpool did not settle down in their newly acquired barracks but went out into the neighbouring villages to share their faith.

Prayer

  • Pray for the members of the fellowship in Newtown as they reach out to the community in Welshpool where there is currently no corps.
