Day 137: Praying for Carmarthen (2010)
1 November 2024
Join with Salvationists of the Wales Division for day 137 of 150 days of prayer.
- 'When we sat down beside the rivers in Babylon, we were very upset. We thought about Zion city that we had left behind, and we wept' (Psalm 137:1, EasyEnglish Bible).
2010
Starting it as an outreach from Ammanford Corps, the work in Carmarthen was begun in 1997 by Majors Denise and Martyn and Clements. It was officially recognised as a corps in 2000 and, in 2010, the corps welcomed four adherents and six junior soldiers. The story is still being told in 2024, as corps officer Lieutenant Jamie Jones writes:
‘Since the Covid pandemic, God has really been working in Carmarthen Corps. From church, community, charity shop and coffee shop we have been truly blessed in seeing our fellowship multiply to an average of 30 each Sunday. After we had prayed for many years, God provided a worship group and leader, deeply rooted Christians and families who have come together to love, live and serve God in our community of Carmarthen.
‘This year has also seen the first group of barista trainees qualify on our new training programme designed to bridge a gap between unemployment and employment. Networking with the Job Centre and Employment Plus, this has given a helping hand to those who are looking for new skills.
‘As we continue to be attuned to God’s calling for each and every one of us, we are excited to see how God will continue to use the corps ministry in the future.’
Prayer
- Praise God for all that he has done through the lives of those committed to the growth of Christian community in Carmarthen.
- Pray for the worship group as they encourage the praise of God when the corps members gather to hear God’s word.
