Day 135: Praying for ministry with children and families (2008)
30 October 2024
Join with Salvationists of the Wales Division for day 135 of 150 days of prayer.
- 'The Lord is good, so praise him! His name is good and great, so praise him with songs!' (Psalm 135:3, EasyEnglish Bible).
2008
Under the heading, ‘Footprints in the Sand’, the Salvationist (13 September 2008) reported on a holiday club at Rhosllanerchrugog:
‘Sixteen children attended the holiday club themed: Footprints. During the week they learnt worship songs, participated in games, and chose “We Are the Kingdom’s Kids” as their theme song. They also wrote prayers which they placed on a collage depicting footprints in the sand. The week had a big spiritual impact on the children, and this has been reflected in their attendance and participation in Sunday meetings.’
Major Melvyn Jones writes:
‘The Miners’ Institute in Rhosllanerchrugog has hosted Salvationist musicians on numerous occasions. Many, many years ago – as a member of the Wrexham Salvation Army Band – I attended a rehearsal at the Institute with the Rhos Male Voice Choir. Band and choir were combining in a concert later in the month. Entering the cigarette-smoke-filled rehearsal room, I struggled to breathe, but the choir sang like angels. Many years later, the larger-than-life Paul Johnson – corps officer of Rhosllanerchrugog together with his wife, Julie – sold the War Cry in the Institute. His musical ability, quiet confidence and down-to-earth faith were evident as on more than one occasion he testified by singing Christian songs in the “home” of the world-famous choir.’
Prayer
- It is natural to reflect on those people who influenced your Christian faith in your early years. Thank God for them.
- Now pray for those who do that work today. Pray for the ministry that goes on with children and families, however that happens.
