Just Gifts: Virtual gifts that support Army projects
Hayley Still
Hayley Still introduces a way to gift your support to Army projects around the world this Christmas.
The Salvation Army International Development UK helps communities around the world to overcome poverty and injustice. It works in partnership with the Army in more than 20 countries to support the delivery of community development and emergency response projects. For those looking for an alternative Christmas present this year, Just Gifts is a way to support this work.
Just Gifts is a selection of virtual gifts that represent the projects that The Salvation Army supports in different countries across the globe. There are 15 gifts to choose from at varying prices, so whether you are looking for a stocking filler for a loved one or a fundraiser for your corps or group, there is something to suit all budgets.
How it works
Just Gifts represent real projects that are taking place around the world. Each gift in the catalogue is an example of the work the Army does – and each one you buy is a donation towards them, with all money raised through Just Gifts helping to fund future projects.
When you purchase a present from Just Gifts, you won’t receive a real bag of seeds or school uniform. What you will receive is a virtual gift voucher, which you can display or send on.
Two new gifts
This year two new gifts have been introduced, which reflect new projects that the Army has begun to support.
Skills Development (£75)
The Salvation Army in Uganda works with communities to raise awareness about human trafficking and supports survivors who have returned home. Through income-generating activities, such as making and selling juice, communities are strengthening connections and building resilience. This gift could support a survivor with training and skills development.
Mentoring Session (£15)
The Salvation Army in South Africa is taking a stand against domestic abuse. Through a new project, survivors are supported to identify income generating opportunities to become financially secure. As part of the programme, skilled volunteers journey alongside survivors, mentoring them as they build their businesses and rebuild their lives. This gift could cover the cost of one mentoring session.
