A prayer on the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Our Father God,

As we gather on this day, our hearts and minds turn to the Royal Family. We pray for your comfort and peace to surround them all as they grieve the loss of their loved one, our Queen.

We pray for her children, grandchildren and all her family members and friends. We remember too her staff and all who worked closely with her.

We thank you for her service, her lifelong devotion to duty to the United Kingdom and our commonwealth of nations. We remember her appreciation of The Salvation Army and the occasions when she recognised and supported our work.

We pray especially for her son Charles, our King, as he assumes his great responsibilities at this time of sorrow.

During these days of great change and challenge in our country, may we find strength and courage together in communities, loving God, and loving others in the name of Christ, the King of kings.

Prayers for The Royal Family - Pray the blessing of comfort over the Queens family today, especially as they grieve in the public eye especially over the coming days.

Prayers for The King - Pray blessings of clarity to lead the Nations he reigns over, and that God would give him wisdom and vision.

Prayers for The Funeral - Pray as millions across the globe watch the Funeral of Her Majesty on TV. Pray that they will not only receive the Christian message in their ears, but also receive it into their lives. Pray for the overseers and the ministers who take responsibility to deliver the words at the funeral. Pray for their protection, but also that their voices would carry the Spirit of the living Lord right across the world.

The songs and readings chosen give thanks to God, acknowledge that human life is transient but our God is faithful. May we also celebrate our eternal hope through Jesus Christ our Lord and may we all be inspired to serve him faithfully, as we reflect on the example of service seen in the life of her late Majesty the Queen.
