Evening Jazz with Richard Mingay

Major Richard Mingay has been a Salvation Army officer for more than 40 years.

He says: ‘Jazz music is a passion of mine. I come from a musical background and have played and studied piano since I was a child. It’s in the past 10 years or so that I have branched out more seriously into studying the language of jazz music, its history, development and especially its relationship with gospel music.

‘There are many branches of the genre. I find real pleasure in listening to and learning from the many great exponents of piano, big band, Latin and choral jazz. When these styles are married up to a genuine gospel message, I’m in my heaven right where I am!

‘This new monthly jazz programme will highlight a variety of these great styles and some incredibly gifted artistes. My hope is that there will be an overarching big Kingdom perspective which will offer Christian encouragement and life-affirmation for listeners, whoever they are and whatever their story.’
