Research and Development

Empowering local mission to flourish through information gathering, research, development support and spiritual reflection.

Research and Development (R&D) is commissioned by divisions and territorial services to co-ordinate and collaborate on various projects. Work covers:

Data collection, including membership and attendance, and the Atlas database for corps and contracted services.
Research, including action research to support the development of mission, analysis of data, preparing reports, and conducting focus groups and interviews.
Project support, including the development of project structure and governance processes, and providing project management tools.
Major development projects, including building projects.

Amy Quinn-Graham and Dr Naar M’fundisi-Holloway explore what the Covid-19 pandemic has taught The Salvation Army about the missional imperative to safeguard creation.

This paper intends to examine some of the work already taking place across The Salvation Army in the UK and Ireland to safeguard the environment and combat climate change, as well as current thinking on the possibility of developing an ‘ecotheology’. This will be used as a launchpad to discuss how and why environmental safeguarding and an ecotheology should feature as a stronger part of the Army’s understanding and articulation of mission.
