Employed spiritual leadership

Opportunities may be advertised for employed corps leaders, pioneer leaders or chaplains.

These roles require enhanced assessments to ensure safeguarding and fitness for Salvation Army spiritual leadership, and a requirement to sign a code of practice which clarifies expectations and accountability for ministry.

Employed spiritual leaders within The Salvation Army include:

  • Corps leaders: leaders of Salvation Army worshipping communities who mobilise Salvationists for mission.
  • Pioneer leaders: leaders responsible for developing new, fresh expressions of The Salvation Army.
  • Chaplains: leaders sent by The Salvation Army to serve a community, such as a prison, Lifehouse for people experiencing homelessness or care home for older people. Chaplains help people explore Christian faith and signpost to Christian communities.
