The world’s most iconic running race will return to the streets of London on 23 April 2023. There are two ways to get a place in the London Marathon:

1. The ballot

The ballot closed on Friday 7 October. Winners will be randomly selected and the results announced before the end of the month. If you are successful in the ballot, you can use your place to support our work.

2. Charity places

If you are unsuccessful or missed the ballot, it’s not too late to secure your place on the start line: you can apply for one of The Salvation Army’s charity places.

However you join Team Sally Army, you can choose to run to support survivors of modern slavery or a corps, centre or project close to your heart. We’ll be cheering you on all the way, through training, fundraising and on race day itself.

Meet Carrie and Marc, two members of Team Sally Army from the 2022 London Marathon.

Carrie Westwick, who raised £2,433, says: ‘My brother was saved by The Salvation Army from a lifetime of alcoholism. He had been through two rehabs before finding The Salvation Army and it has helped him stay clean to this day ‑ over 10 years.

‘I can never thank you enough for the support you gave him and the gift of life. I also work closely with an officer of The Salvation Army and have listened to her stories of how you help so many people and the sacrifices you all make to do this. You are a wonderful organisation that I am privileged to support.’

Marc Brine, who raised £2,726, says: ‘I have attended The Salvation Army for my whole life - I'm an officers’ kid. It goes without saying that I love the social justice work that the Army does. I also volunteer at the kids’ club and youth club at Preston Salvation Army, and am part of the summer school staff in the North West Division. During lockdown, I volunteered in the foodbank.

‘My dad, mum and sister have all run the London Marathon for the Army, and I didn’t want to let the side down! Last year, I ran the Great North Run in memory of my dad and raised money for Cancer Research. I thought to myself that while it was great to raise money to combat the thing that took my dad's life, my next big fundraiser should be in aid of what he dedicated his life to.’
